A life devoted to sexuality, consciousness and human possibility
Andrew Barnes is a sexuality educator, master bodyworker, Tantra teacher, author and creator of original approaches to sexuality, embodiment and transformation. His work is shaped by a simple but far-reaching possibility: that sexuality is not only a source of pleasure, love and deeper connection. Cultivated as a meditation, it can awaken vitality, expand consciousness and bring extraordinary dimensions of experience into everyday life.
The body of work took shape through study, practice, conversation and lived experience. Its history is not a straight line of achievement, but an ongoing process of listening, recognising what needed to change and allowing new understanding to reshape the work.
01
The beginning was gradual
Andrew began developing and facilitating sexuality retreats and guided experiential work in 1998. Nothing arrived fully formed. Professional education, somatic practices and original modalities grew gradually over many years, each shaped by what he learned from participants, what study clarified and what experience asked him to reconsider.
02
Listening became an education
Over more than two decades of international teaching, Andrew estimates that he has spoken with well over 25,000 women and more than 15,000 men about relationships, sexuality and orgasmic potential. Listening closely, and noticing how differently each person responded physically, emotionally and erotically, became an education no textbook could provide.
03
Freedom found an inner compass
Over time, Andrew recognised that some earlier retreats had placed too much emphasis on sexual intensity, pleasure and extraordinary experience, and not enough on love, relationship and integration. He also saw that simply replacing sexual shame with a prescribed performance of shamelessness could leave the same low sexual self-esteem unresolved. The work changed towards helping each person develop an inner sexual compass: the capacity to know what is true, wanted and life-giving for them, rather than conforming to someone else’s image of sexual freedom.
04
Evolution remains part of the work
That evolution has required more than personal reflection. Andrew undertook a third-party accountability process with Safe Mediation, which formally concluded in April 2023, and Betty Martin, creator of the Wheel of Consent, has been his professional supervisor for approximately five years. Accountability, supervision, continuing study and participant feedback have all helped reshape the work, bringing greater clarity to informed consent, boundaries, power, participant authority and trauma-informed practice. They also keep alive a simple responsibility: to listen, to learn and, where necessary, to change.
One of the continuing aims of Andrew’s work is to translate ideas that can seem mystical or remote into practices people can feel, explore and live for themselves. Sexuality then becomes more than technique: a way of feeling more alive and at home in the body, meeting others with greater truth, love and tenderness, and bringing the mystery, wonder and creative intelligence of life into ordinary days.
01
Sexual energy as a spiritual catalyst
Sexual energy is a creative current capable of transforming how life is felt and lived. Cultivated consciously, it can awaken orgasmic vitality, expand consciousness, reveal dimensions of ourselves we had not known and call forth capacities that were waiting beyond our usual identity. It can bring the unseen into the seen, carrying wonder, imagination and a renewed sense of possibility into the body and everyday life.
02
The whole human being
Body, mind, emotions, relationships, sexuality, energy and spirit are always in conversation. A difficulty in one can echo through the others; growth in one can open new possibilities elsewhere. Andrew helps people recognise which part of life is asking for care, where a pattern needs resolution and where an overlooked capacity is ready to grow. This becomes a lifelong practice of knowing where to place attention so that sexual potential and the wider life can develop together.
03
Relationships and sexuality belong together
Relationships and sexuality are inseparable in Andrew’s work. How we love shapes how we meet sexuality, and how we cultivate sexual energy shapes our capacity to love. This begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. Love gives sexuality its inner direction, guiding it with integrity, safety, care and empathy; conscious sexuality, in turn, can become a motivating life force that deepens our capacity to love, create and be of service in the world.

The way the work is held
Transformation is not separate from responsibility
Expansive experiences require clear foundations. Andrew’s approach places autonomy, informed consent and trauma-informed awareness at the centre of how people are invited to participate.
01
Choice and autonomy
The right to choose, pause, change direction or decline remains with each participant. Personal agency is part of the work itself.
02
Trauma-informed awareness
Retreats and learning environments are shaped by informed consent, participant-led pacing and attention to individual capacity and integration.
03
Accountability and continued learning
Ethical practice requires more than stated principles. It asks for professional supervision, honest feedback, transparent accountability and a willingness to change how the work is held.
