Lesson 2 · 14 min

Hear without filling the gaps

A familiar story can tempt us to assume we know the ending. Notice the difference between what someone says and what you add. Your interpretation may be useful, but it is still an interpretation.

Try it for yourself

After listening to a short story, reflect back one thing you heard. Ask whether you understood, and leave space for a correction.

A moment to reflect

Where did you notice an assumption?

A question for Lukas

Keep a question and its reply beside the lesson that prompted it. Message translation can be set up in your chosen languages; German is shown here as one example.

It is fine to keep this simple. Choose one thing you noticed, and begin there. You don’t need a complete explanation.
