Notice before you changeWith Elena Fischer

Begin with the reading and exploration below. Give yourself time to pause, return and make the practice your own.

Lesson 1 · 12 min

Notice before you change

We often meet a busy moment by trying harder. Before changing anything, try noticing what is already here. Where is your attention? What can you hear? What is supporting your body? There is no correct feeling to produce. Paying attention begins with an honest description of this moment.

Try it for yourself

Set down what you are holding. Notice three things you can see and the contact between your feet and the floor. Let your breathing find its own rhythm. Stay for a few comfortable moments, then return to your day.

A moment to reflect

What did you notice when you stopped trying to make the moment different?

A moment to check in

Explore what stayed with you. Single-choice, multiple-choice and true/false questions are marked automatically, with immediate results. Your teacher does not need to mark them by hand.

1. What is the starting point? Single choice
2. Which two choices support the practice? Multiple choice
3. There is one correct feeling you must produce. True or false

Short and long written answers need teacher review, rather than automatic marking. Teacher feedback can be included in the agreed course service. These example reflections stay on this page.

A question for Elena

Keep a question and its reply beside the lesson that prompted it. Message translation can be set up in your chosen languages; German is shown here as one example.

It is fine to keep this simple. Choose one thing you noticed, and begin there. You don’t need a complete explanation.
